Rangers offer winger new deal to deter Liverpool approach

Rangers have begun fresh contract negotiations with Josh McPake in an effort to avoid losing him to Liverpool this summer, according to the Daily Record.

Manager Steven Gerrard is a fan of McPake and wants the youngster to attend Rangers’ eight-day pre-season training camp this week.

The club are prepared to offer the 17-year-old an improved three-year deal to ward off interest from a number of clubs in England and Germany, one of which is Liverpool.

The winger has just one year left on his current contract and rejected an extension offer in March.

However, his representatives are now in discussions with Rangers again over a new deal that would see McPake remain at Ibrox for the foreseeable future.

The youngster shone for the Gers youth and reserve teams last season, playing a key role in the 3-2 win over Celtic in the Youth Cup Final.

Liverpool are always in the market for young talent and would certainly be keen on acquiring McPake if the opportunity arises.
