Liverpool speak out after Nicolas Pepe rumours escalate

Liverpool have moved to distance themselves from reports in France linking them with an approach for Lille striker Nicolas Pepe, according to the Echo.
The Reds were tipped with an €80million move for the player just last night, with “concrete discussions” reportedly ongoing over the transfer.
However, the club soon made their stance clear by claiming such speculation was “pure lies” fabricated by the media.

Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards made contact with Lille manager Christophe Galtier earlier this month to confirm that the club had zero interest in Pepe and no transfer approach would be forthcoming.
The forward scored 22 goals for the Ligue 1 side last season, helping them to a second-place finish just behind PSG.
Pepe was subsequently linked with a switch to Anfield, but after several weeks of constant rumours in the media, it now appears as though the striker is not bound for Merseyside after all.
