Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Legend Backs Reds to Sign Zaha

The Crystal Palace striker is reportedly looking for new challenges.
We’ve definitely been down this road before. Crystal Palace’s best player, Wilfred Zaha, may be interested in a move away from his club and towards some Champions League action, and it’s entirely possible that Liverpool (who recently indulged in a little Champions League action) may be interested in making this happen.
This rumour comes courtesy of Liverpool legend John Aldridge in The Sunday World, and it’s unclear if there’s any substance to it whatsoever. The Ivory Coast international has already been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United.
“Maybe Liverpool should look into the possibility of recruiting Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace, who is rumoured to have made it clear he wants to move on to play Champions League football,” Aldridge wrote this weekend.
“Zaha has given Liverpool some real problems in the last couple of years, and Klopp’s ability to turn talents of his type into consistent performers has to make him the kind of player who could thrive at Anfield.”
Klopp has certainly brought out the best in the players he’s worked with in the past, and there’s no reason to believe that Zaha wouldn’t flourish under him. That said, it doesn’t seem too likely that Liverpool will be willing to shell out £80m—the price Palace is asking—for a striker who would invariably serve as back-up for Liverpool’s current front three.
This is all assuming that Liverpool and Klopp aren’t engaged in a long-term ploy to draw Zaha away from Crystal Palace—a club the Reds have notoriously struggled against—to destroy the Eagles’ confidence and remove another obstacle to winning the league.
Fowler and Michael Edwards work in mysterious ways.
