Gerrard dismisses Newcastle links as “fake news”

Steven Gerrard has branded talk of him becoming the next Newcastle United boss “fake news” after reports linked him to the job yesterday.
Rafa Benitez left his position at St James’ Park in June after the club failed to agree a new contract with him, much to the dismay of Magpies supporters.
Former Reds captain Gerrard was linked to the role but brushed aside suggestions that he’s set to take up the job.

“Fake news. Not that I’m aware of,” Gerrard told the Daily Record, when asked about the Newcastle role.
The Gers boss is preparing to coach Rangers against Gibraltar in the early stages of their Europa League campaign today.
Newcastle boss Mike Ashley will continue his search for a new manager elsewhere, with Mikel Arteta and Patrick Viera also linked.
