Klopp makes decision on Dejan Lovren’s future

Dejan Lovren

Jurgen Klopp expects to have Dejan Lovren in his squad for the 2019/20 season, according to the Echo.

The defender dropped down the pecking order last season and is now fourth-choice at centre-back behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

He has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with AC Milan interested in bringing him to the Serie A.

However, the Croatian wasn’t added any fuel to the fire by responding to transfer speculation and Klopp is eager to keep him at Anfield.

The defender, who turns 30 today, is happy to remain on Merseyside and fight for his place among the players at Klopp’s disposal.

The Reds boss regards Lovren as a solid option, though he’s likely to stick with either Matip or Gomez as partners for Van Dijk.

Liverpool bolstered their defensive options further with the signing of Sepp van den Berg last week, though the £1.3million signing is expected to spend the coming season in the Academy setup.
