Liverpool Will “Come Back Stronger and with Even More Hunger” in 2019-20 Season

Divock Origi wants to follow up Liverpool’s sixth European Cup the right way—with more silverware.
Liverpool’s players continue to trickle back for pre-season, with the first wave of players who didn’t have any international commitments over the summer kicking things off over the weekend and then Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi joining up today.
For Origi, the goal for the team this season is clear: to follow up their first trophy under Jürgen Klopp and the club’s sixth European Cup with a second major honour. After a season like the last one, for this group, success will be measured in silverware.
“We will try to go for a second one and win as much as possible,” Origi said today. “But we need to focus game by game again, do the same as last season, try and prepare as well as possible and then in the end, hopefully we’ll have a good result.
“There is a lot of potential in this team, we have everything here. We’ve already said it. We’ve made steps in our development, everyone is a year older now, we have experience of winning a cup, so I think we come back stronger and with even more hunger.”
As for Origi’s personal future, the club have made it clear that despite having just a year left on his current contract, the player is part of Jürgen Klopp’s plans for the 2019-20 season no matter what happens—though the hope is that a new deal happens.
On that front, reports this week from journalists with ties to the club have claimed that Klopp plans to make it clear to Origi that he will head into the season as first alternate to Liverpool’s attacking trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mané, and Mo Salah.
With a long season ahead of them and as many as seven trophies on offer, then, the minutes will be there for the 24-year-old—but for Origi, while there may be contract talk swirling in the papers, he says his only focus now is on playing football again.
“We’re recharged now and happy to be back,” he added. “I’m excited—I’m always excited at the beginning of a new season. The boys have already been working, I came back a couple of days after, so it’s good to join them again.”
