Olly Dale, who has been Liverpool’s Commercial Director since 2011, has announced he will be leaving

Most Liverpool fans, especially the sane ones, would have a hard time criticizing Fenway Sports Group (FSG) after the recent results on the pitch. A big number six was always going to do wonders for the standing of the current ownership group. It might not have always been smooth sailing, but the club’s standing in both England and (of course) in Europe has come on in leaps and bounds.

So it’s probably a bit of sad news that one of the vital cogs in the machine, FSG’s Commercial Director Olly Dale, will be leaving the club. Dale was directly involved with sponsorship deals for shirt sleeves and training kits, and that extra revenue has been a big part in helping the club fulfil its lofty ambitions.

“Olly has been a key member of the commercial side of the club since he joined FSG in 2011,” Mike Gordon, president and owner of FSG said. “His efforts have led to significant growth in our commercial revenues during his tenure at LFC.

“While we are very sorry to see him go, I have no doubt he will do a fantastic job leading other commercial businesses in the future and we wish him well.”

Of course people come and go in this business, and 8 years seems like a decent stint. Dale might not have been the first name on fans’ lips, even when discussing the impressive behind-the-scenes staff, but he oversaw a transformation that drastically improved Liverpool’s financial standing, as well as the end result on the pitch.

Hopefully whoever FSG find to replace Dale will be just as adept at creating new and additional resources for the club, to continue this upward trajectory that we are currently on.
