Naby Keita’s involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations is now over after the midfielder returned to Liverpool injured, according to the Evening Standard.
The Reds’ No.8 returned to England at the weekend for medical tests on a thigh injury sustained against Nigeria.
Tests proved that the Guinea international will not be able to return to the tournament in Egypt, and he will now continue his recovery on Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp had originally wanted the 24-year-old to miss the summer competition but had been overruled by Keita’s home nation.
However, in light of the player’s fresh injury, Guinea boss Paul Put praised Liverpool for helping get Keita to Egypt in the first place.
“I had the feeling that Liverpool wanted Naby to play in the Africa Cup and he has colleagues at Liverpool in Salah and Mane, so it all counts,” Put said.
“It was also pressure on him and I had the feeling he really wanted it because he had been working so hard when he came back from Liverpool. He was working so hard and forcing himself very hard.
“But the injury is still in the head and if you feel something you are not 100 per cent, so it makes no sense to play, especially these high intensity games, so I think we have to see and wait for the result.”
