Olmo You Didn’t: Reds Linked With Spanish U21 Starlet

According to reports out of Spain, Liverpool are interested in Dinamo Zagreb winger Dani Olmo.

Unlike last summer when Liverpool announced their ambitions with a splashy signing in Fabinho right off the bat, this transfer season has gotten off to a slow start. And not just for Liverpool, either, a lot of big clubs are looking at the current landscape of the transfer market with bated breath, unsure how all the dominoes will fall this summer.

The capture of youth Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg was hardly the Big Name Signing (#Mbappe2020) that Liverpool fans craved, but it was the one that we got. In keeping with this trend, the rumor that Liverpool might be in for Dinamo Zagreb and U21 Spanish international Dani Olmo might not be so far fetched.

The attacking midfielder helped Spain lift the European U21 Championship with Spain, scoring three across the tournament, including in the final against Germany. He came up through Barcelona’s youth system, but moved to Zagreb in 2015, where he has made 71 senior appearances across all competitions.

Now, it appears that he is setting his sights on a move to one of the big leagues. So naturally the Premier League—along with all of its usual suspects—have been linked.

“We are talking about the best leagues in the world and they all have positive things,” Olmo told Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

“La Liga is something more special because for me it is home, with my people. But those of England, Germany and Italy also attract me very much.”

So, while England isn’t his first choice it is a choice. And Liverpool are in the Premier League, so of course this is happening.

The statement was enough for Spanish journalists to link Olmo to the biggest clubs in the world, such as Liverpool and Bayern Munich, as well as other clubs, such as Manchester United.

There doesn’t seem to be much in this rumor, but equally it wouldn’t be so shocking if Liverpool decided to continue their trend of signing for the future, and Olmo might be a worthwhile candidate.
