Naby Keita Receives a Positive Report After His Melwood Assessment

The Liverpool midfielder isn’t expected to be sidelined for too long and will report for preseason training.

The Naby Keita injury update you’ve been waiting for is finally here. The Guinean midfielder was removed from AFCON action due to injury. That injury turned out to be an aggravation of the adductor injury Keita sustained in the semi-final first leg at Barcelona. The injury that ended his season. It’s very silly that Keita wasn’t sent off on holiday immediately following the Champions League Final. But, alas, he played football instead.

Keita left the pitch in Guinea’s 1-0 loss to Nigeria, was ruled out of the rest of the tournament, and sent back to Melwood for extreme, expert analysis. Early reports weren’t great. The new reports are better.

The Liverpool medical staff have given Keita the once over and are advising rest but otherwise aren’t fearful of an extended absence from action. Keita is reportedly logging those long-awaited holiday hours now and has been told sign up for pre-season classes, starting at the end of the month.

A proper length of time away from activity is Keita’s healing medicine. That, and probably some stretching. Or maybe don’t stretch it. Naby, if you’re reading this, honestly, I don’t know. Just be careful.

I don’t have to tell you about the crucial role Keita needs to be filling in JĂĽrgen Klopp’s squad this coming season. The team needs him available and performing at his level. Hopefully all goes well in the interim healing period and by August or so the trainers can help Keita get strong for the coming campaign.
