Spanish Reports Claim Liverpool Have Entered Dani Ceballos Race

Tottenham and Arsenal are after the player on loan but Liverpool are said to want a permanent deal.

Dani Ceballos has been deemed surplus to requirements at Real Madrid and the 22-year-old midfielder is expected to depart the Spanish giants in the coming weeks. And, until now at least, Tottenham have been listed as favourites with Arsenal also interested.

However, according to Marca a third club have entered the race in recent weeks, and that club is Liverpool—with the added twist being that until now the talk has been of a loan for Ceballos but the Reds are said to only be interested in a permanent deal for him.

It seems unlikely given reports Liverpool are unlikely to make big signings this summer and that if there’s a position they’re deep at, it’s midfield: they already have Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, James Milner, Naby Keïta, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Keïta’s injury situation could be a complicating factor, but as things stand it’s difficult to see where Ceballos would fit into a Liverpool side that could probably use a little fullback and forward depth but looks more than stocked already in the middle of the park.

For whatever it might be worth, this isn’t the first time the Spanish press have thought to link Ceballos with a Liverpool move, as over the past year it has regularly been suggested that Jürgen Klopp is a particular fan of the talented young midfielder.

That could, just maybe, reflect a truth that could mean Liverpool would consider changing their summer plans if Ceballos was available. Or it could just mean that with the link already established it’s easy to name-drop Liverpool to liven up a stagnating story.

Given everything we do know from the Liverpool end of things, our money would be on the latter, but stranger things have certainly happened in the transfer market over the years.
