The former Liverpool striker has signed a three-year deal with the Turkish Super Lig side.

Having spent the summer on the sidelines being linked with sides from America to China, Daniel Sturridge has today officially found himself a new home as the 29-year-old striker joins Trabzonspor on a three-year deal.

The news confirms what had been expected for much of the past week, with reports out of Turkey declaring a deal close before the weekend and Sturridge seen arriving in the Black Sea city of Trabzon for his medical on Tuesday.

Last season, Trabzonspor finished fourth in the Super Lig, qualifying for the third qualifying rounds of the Europa League, where they beat Sparta Prague 4-3 on aggregate. They next face Athens for a spot in the group stages.

For Sturridge, tomorrow’s European first leg likely comes too soon, but he could play a role in the second leg on August 29th as they look to secure a group stage place. A debut could also come on Sunday against Yeni Malatyaspor.

Whenever he is ready to start, Trabzonspor will have landed themselves one of Europe’s top strikers on talent—but also a player whose career has been hindered by multiple injuries. Hopefully, Sturridge can stay fit for his new club.
