Liverpool Will Seek to Take Their Frustrations out on Chelsea

The Reds had a tough go of it in Naples on Tuesday night, but there’s no time to dwell on that with Chelsea up next.

Between what has tended to happen both on and off the pitch, it’s probably fair to say Liverpool and the club’s fans would all rather steer clear of Italy in general—and Naples in particular—for the foreseeable future.

The good news, then, is that at least for the rest of 2019 they’ll get to do that, and a match on Sunday against Chelsea means a chance for the players to quickly put Tuesday’s referee-assisted 2-0 defeat behind them.

“Difficult night last night and disappointing result but we must put it behind us and now,” Virgil van Dijk said. “It’s about how we react. It’s time to stand up, be positive, and focus on putting in a big performance against Chelsea.”

While the Reds were having a frustrating night in Italy, Chelsea were having one of their own, losing to Valencia at Stamford Bridge. In the league, the Blues are one of six sides in an eight point, third place traffic jam.

Liverpool, meanwhile, know they will stay in first no matter the result of this weekend’s round of fixtures—but a win would ensure they maintain their five-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table.
