Liverpool Announce Departure of Trio At End of Season
Yana Daniels, Jasmine Matthews, and Teagan Micah will all look to ply their trade elsewhere at the expiration of their contracts this summer.
With the Barclays Women’s Super League down to the final two match weeks, it’s about that time for folks to begin thinking of what comes next for the club. That usually entails looking over the squad list, making assessments, and strategizing ahead of next season.
Liverpool’s off-season looks to be quite complicated given the mid-season departure of Matt Beard. And, as of yet, there’s been no word on whether interim head coach, Amber Whiteley, is looking like the club’s choice for a permanent solution. Additionally, the current captain Niamh Fahey’s retirement announcement is still fresh.
Which is what makes today’s news from the club so difficult: Yana Daniels, Jasmine Matthews, and Teagan Micah are all going to depart the club during the summer. All three are on expiring contracts and have decided to ply their trades elsewhere.
In the case of Daniels and Matthews, the club is losing players with significant service time: Daniels might still reach 100 caps and Matthews will finish just shy of that number. Which is to say that the club will really feel the absence of these two.
Liverpool’s summer looks to be quite uncertain except for one thing: change is in the offing.
