Naby Keita and Alisson Becker injury updates

The Liverpool Echo has provided injury updates on Alisson Becker and Naby Keita, with the two fan favourites yet to play a meaningful role this season.

The Reds have made a perfect start to the 2019/20 season having won their first four games of the campaign, one of only three sides to do so in Europe’s top five leagues.

Klopp has done so without his first-choice goalkeeper and arguably the most talented midfielder at the club and although the former is nearing an injury return, Keita could be on the sidelines for a while still.

The Echo reports that Alisson is expected to return to action either at the end of September or at the start of October after returning to light training in the last week.

On his injury status, Klopp had this to say: “At the beginning, he was on crutches, which is normal for his injury, and they are not there now. He walks normal, he can train completely normal compared to a week ago and I think from now it will go quick. How quick, I don’t know.”

The Brazilian has proven himself to be the finest goalkeeper in the world and his absence from the Liverpool starting XI has certainly been noticeable, particularly in terms of the Reds’ buildup from the back.

Keita, who was seen limping out of Liverpool’s UEFA Super Cup training last month, is suffering from a hip injury and will reportedly remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

The club is yet to put a timescale on his return which suggests that he isn’t expected to return anytime soon.

This will be a blow for Liverpool but the likes of Fabinho, Wijnaldum and Henderson have once again shown this season that they are more than capable of coping without their Guinean teammate.
