Youth Watch: Alex Inglethorpe Keeping Tabs on Harry Wilson

The head of Liverpool’s vaunted Academy is keeping watch over Harry Wilson.

Harry Wilson deals almost exclusively in scoring bangers. He did it with Derby and the long-range shooting specialist is doing it once more in the Premier League with Bournemouth. The Welsh winger has been so on fire that he’s even taken home Bournemouth’s Player of the Month award for the month of August.

The fans voted Harry Wilson, notching over 50% of the votes in the poll, largely due to the screamers put in by Wilson. He’s got two goals in this year’s Premier League Campaign, with one of the goals being the eventual match winner for Bournemouth against Aston Villa. Wilson is clearly having a charmed start to life in the Premier League.

Whether this means an eventual move into Liverpool’s senior team, of course, remains a big question. Wilson would, of course, need to show the ability and talent to even, at the very least, be viewed as a rotational option to Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah on the wing. One can’t deny, though, that Wilson is doing all the things at present to make that choice an incredibly difficult one.

To that end, Alex Inglethorpe, Liverpool’s Academy Director, indicated in part of a wide-ranging interview on the official site, that he was, of course, keeping close watch on the development of young Harry Wilson.

“Harry has got real ability and he influences games, so I’m interested to see what happens when he gets the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League. Can he step up another level because he has proven he can do it in the Championship? Hopefully he can carry that on in the Premier League.”

It’s obviously early days, so no need to get too excited. And no reason to expect much more than that from Inglethorpe on Wilson. But it’s clear that Wilson remains one on the bubble for Liverpool’s future plans. And, at the very least, it looks rather apparent that the young winger has a future in the Premier League.
