Dropping Adrian for Alisson was correct, says John Aldridge
John Aldridge says that Jurgen Klopp made the right decision to drop Adrian to the bench against Manchester United as he restored Alisson to the starting lineup.
Writing in a column for the Echo, he said: “I think it was the correct decision to put Alisson straight back in, no matter how well Adrian had done deputising for him.
“He’s our number one and the best goalkeeper in the world. Adrian has been brilliant. Everyone respects him and thanks him for what he’s done.”
Alisson is the best goalkeeper in the world and there is no real reason for him to be left out when he improves the side so much when he’s included.
It must be said that Adrian was absolutely fantastic for Liverpool in Alisson’s absence and can now be trusted by fans in the event that his Brazilian teammate is out injured or suspended.
It’s fantastic for Klopp to know that he has two top goalkeepers to call on and it should allow the German to rest easy knowing that a formerly problematic position is now sound.
Liverpool’s next game comes in the Champions League against Genk but hopefully, Alisson won’t be called into action too many times as the Reds should deal with the Belgian outfit fairly easily.
