Liverpool hint at interest in Takumi Minamino
Liverpool are fighting with New Balance in the High Court over their right to sign a new kit deal with Nike and they might have hinted at their interest in Japanese star Takumi Minamino.
The Reds were linked with the former RB Salzburg star in the wake of their win over the Austrian side in the Champions League and Friday’s court appearance might have shown Liverpool’s intentions in the transfer market.
Before he joined Chelsea, supporters argued that Christian Pulisic should be signed to help boost the club’s commercial roots in the United States but his move to the Blues put paid to the school of thought.
Now, with the hype surrounding 24-year-old Minamino now building, the Reds could be considering making a move to sign the Japanese star and a hint was dropped in court on Friday.
Liverpool’s lawyer Guy Morpuss repeatedly cross-examined his witness and presented arguments that pertained to the Reds’ commercial interest in Japan and the Far East.
Signing someone like Minamino would aid Liverpool’s ability to drive sales in Asia while also adding someone with the quality to be a decent back up to Roberto Firmino in the false nine role.
Of course, this is just a theory given the Merseysiders’ reported interest in the RB Salzburg forward but given the way that Liverpool are looking to expand commercially, it’s certainly possible.
