Mohamed Salah in contention to face Genk

Mohamed Salah missed Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday but is in contention to face Genk in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Egyptian didn’t pass Liverpool’s pre-match fitness tests ahead of their trip to Manchester United but Jurgen Klopp says he’s in contention to start midweek.

After being on the end of a dangerous challenge from Hamza Choudhury, the forward spent the international break recuperating.

And despite training on a bespoke programme specifically to prepare him to play against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, he was unable to start or even make the matchday squad.

“Mo was not ready, that’s how it is,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“He couldn’t train with the team; I don’t know where it came from that everybody said he will play. There was pretty much no chance for today, maybe for Wednesday, we have to see.”

Liverpool travel to Belgium to face Genk on Wednesday and hopefully Salah will be able to feature.
