Rafael van der Vaart rips Harry Maguire apart
Manchester United signed Harry Maguire in the summer and Rafael van der Vaart believes the Englishman is nowhere near as good as Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by a very poor Manchester United side after some very debatable calls from referee Martin Atkinson.
Harry Maguire, United’s £80million central defender, wasn’t called into action much but when Andy Robertson fired a low cross into the box in the 85th minute, the Englishman and his United teammates failed to deal with it.
Speaking after the game, van der Vaart said Maguire isn’t anywhere near as good as his compatriot van Dijk.
“When I go to see an amateur club on Sunday, I can find 3 players who can play like him,” he said on Dutch television during United vs. Liverpool.
The ex-Spurs midfielder added: “I mean that. It might be silly to say it but he won’t hear it anyway.
“If we are talking about a €90m signing here then Van Dijk is worth €300m.”
