Roy Keane and Jose Mourinho praise Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk was strong against Manchester United and speaking on Sky Sports, Jose Mourinho and Roy Keane praised the Dutchman.

The Holland international joined Liverpool for £75million in January 2018 and has since become the best central defender in Europe and has transformed the Reds’ defence.

His value, according to Transfermarkt, has gone up to £86million but you’ll find Liverpool fans wouldn’t sell him for double that such is his influence on this side.

As per the Daily Mail, Mourinho said on Sky Sports: “It would be unfair to other fantastic central defenders. In English football, yes for sure. He has everything and its almost impossible to find weakness in his game.”

Meanwhile, Keane added: “He’s been fantastic. The sign of a brilliant player is when he makes those around him better. The stats behind it are fantastic.”

Liverpool are the best side defensively in the Premier League and potentially Europe as well although they have showed a lot more vulnerability this season as their high line has been exposed more than it was last term.

While the Merseysiders have looked slightly more at risk of conceding chances this season, it isn’t a serious issue as the likes of van Dijk are so good at defending in 1 v 1 situations.
