Noel Whelan raves about 'electric' Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan told Football Insider that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can be a ‘massive boost’ to the Liverpool squad.

“Lallana looked lively enough but he’s not the one who really impressed me,” he said. “Lallana doesn’t have the electricity that Oxlade-Chamberlain has on the ball.

“He can go past opponents with pace, carry the ball forward from midfield to attack, and burst into the box to score goals.

“He’s starting to look sharp after that horrible injury and I predict big things from him this season. He’s young, hungry and has the quality to be a Premier League superstar. A fully fit Oxlade-Chamberlain is a massive boost to the squad.”

The biggest thing for the former Arsenal star this season is to remain fit so that he can truly kick on at Liverpool after an ACL injury wrecked the initial progress he made as a Red.

As Whelan has correctly pointed out, if he can remain fully fit then Jurgen Klopp will have an ‘electric’ player on his hands that can blow teams away like he did twice against Manchester City during the 2017/18 season.

He scored two bullet goals in that season and was arguably the best midfielder in the run to the Champions League final in Kiev which he was unfortunately absent for due to his knee injury.
