Former Manchester United defender lumps praise on Fabinho

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has lumped praise on Liverpool midfielder Fabinho.

Liverpool signed Fabinho from Monaco for £39 million back in the summer of 2018, however, he did have a slow start to life at Anfield.

As of right now, he is a key figure in Liverpool’s starting XI, and Ferdinand believes he has been Jurgen Klopp’s best player this season.

Before Liverpool faced Napoli in the Champions League last night, Ferdinand told BT Sport, as quoted by Metro: “He [Fabinho] has been their best player this season. He struggled in his first season but he’s adapted perfectly now.

“What I love about him… people go on about the tackles, but the way he reads the game and his awareness on the pitch is an art in itself and he does it as good as anyone at the moment.

“For a centre-half, he’s a dream. He locks down a part of the pitch. To be successful you need to do the ugly stuff.

“You need players like that, you can’t just have pretty players like Salah, Mane and Firmino. Fabinho is the guy who gives Liverpool the platform.”

Fabinho was forced off the Anfield pitch in the 1-1 draw with Napoli due to an ankle injury. The severity of the injury is yet to be revealed.
