Jordan Henderson Vows to Clean Up Clean Sheet Record

The Reds haven’t kept a clean sheet since September.

Liverpool can’t seem to stop winning. Last minute game winners have become de rigueur for the Reds, and while it’s always exhilarating, the heroics are hiding a deeper problem. Liverpool keep letting teams score. Sure, the ability to come from behind and walk away with three points in the mark of a title-winning team, but, like, not every game.

Alisson Becker has yet to keep a clean sheet since he’s returned from injury in September. It’s certainly not all his fault though. The impenetrable defense that set them apart last season has begun to falter a bit. Perhaps it’s the long absence of Joel Matip that has lead to this difficult. With Fabinho similarly on the injury list, the problem is only likely to get worse, not better.

Captain Jordan Henderson recognizes the dilemma they’re faced with, and he’s vowed, in today’s match programme to begin rectifying it.

“It’s not that we’re conceding a particular type of goal,” Henderson explained. “If we were, it would be easy to identify the issue and to fix it in training. It’s a mixture of instances in different situations and for whatever reason they’re not going in our favour – but whatever the cause we have to put it right.

“It can be a midfielder winning a tackle, a forward closing down, a group of us pressing at the right moment, a defender getting a bit more support at particular moments; basically about finding that little bit extra in all areas and before we know it we’ll be matching the standards that we set ourselves.

“Why am I so confident? Simple: we’ve done it before so we can do it again. This group has proven itself on so many fronts over the last few years but sometimes you get little reminders to step up and I’ve no doubt that we will respond in the right way.

“We know it’s an area for improvement and whether we win, lose or draw, we always look at what we could have done better. Why? So we can improve as best we can.”

With Manchester City dropping points against Newcastle in the early kick-off (thanks again, Agent Jonjo), today’s match against Brighton & Hove Albion would be a very good time for them to get on this area of improvement.

Clean sheet, three points. Come on, boys.
