Liverpool forward responds to fresh diving allegations

Sadio Mane

Reds forward Sadio Mane has laughed off the idea that he was looking for a penalty during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Napoli at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Mane was denied a penalty when he went down under a challenge from Giovanni Di Lorenzo in the Champions League, which many have suggested was a dive from the Senegal international.

Pep Guardiola recently suggested Mane consistently staged for fouls, which has certainly put the attention on the Senegal international of late. However, Mane only sees the funny side of it all.

“Yes, I think it was a penalty,” Mane said when asked about the incident against Napoli, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“I was not diving like usual eh?!

“Like I always said, I am not a kind of player who will always dive to steal something from the game. I could be lucky sometimes and get a penalty, but he didn’t give it for me, and it wasn’t a dive.”
