Derby win shows Liverpool boss made the correct decision in the summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed the squad players he called upon in last night’s 5-2 Merseyside derby win at Anfield.

Klopp made five changes against Everton, as he does have a busy December period ahead.

The likes of Divock Origi, Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri have not played too many minutes this season for the Reds, however, it certainly did not have a negative impact on them last night.

Origi scored twice and Shaqiri scored once to help the Reds secure all three points and go eight points clear of second-placed Leicester City in the Premier League.

“There were a lot of great football moments in that game,” Klopp said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“We made five changes. I speak a lot about the quality in the squad, so I have to show it from time to time.

“You give the responsibility to the boys and they have to show that they can perform and what they’re made of, which is incredible.

“Divock’s goal, Sadio’s passes, Shaq’s everything, Adam Lallana everywhere and he had so many really really good moments. Just so many good football moments. But, of course, from time to time a bit rusty in defending because they were really direct.

“It was all good until 4-1, but the 4-2 I didn’t like so much. But we have to learn and have to improve and that’s what we will do.

“They are fantastic footballers. I said before the season that there is no one in the squad who is not an outstanding footballer.”

Klopp was questioned throughout the summer for a lack of signings, as he believed he already had the squad to tackle the 2019-20 season.

Going on the evidence of last night, he can rely on his squad players to play when called upon.
