Bayern Munich were interested in Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, according to CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Mane drew the attentions of the Bundesliga club when he made the move to Red Bull Salzburg from French side Metz.

The Senegal international then moved onto Southampton, and then the defining move in his career eventuated to Liverpool.

“We had an interest in Mane, but somehow it didn’t work out,” Rummenigge told Bild. “He then went to Southampton and later Liverpool. A shame.”

Had Bayern Munich snapped up Mane, perhaps the move to Liverpool may not have occurred.
