Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Reds forward Xherdan Shaqiri could miss the next two games due to injury.

Shaqiri was absent from Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield in the Premier League yesterday.

Going by Klopp’s comments, Shaqiri was going to start against Wolves, but his hamstring would not allow him to feature at all.

Klopp told BBC Sport that the Swiss international could potentially be out for the next 10 days. He would miss the Premier League clash against Sheffield United at Anfield, and also the Merseyside derby at Anfield in the FA Cup.

“We have exactly three ‘adult’ players on the bench, in that period of the season,” Klopp said.

“Yes, players are coming back, [but] we were never the biggest squad in the league and now we have 13 adult players.

“I love our kids, all of them, they are so talented, but in a game like this that would have been harsh tonight, to bring them [on].

“So we have three players, we have to make sure how can we start, how can we settle.

“Shaqiri could have started but last night he felt a little bit the hamstring; he’s out not for long, but maybe a week or 10 days, whatever.

“That means in that period of time it’s 17 games, pretty much!

“We make decisions, we wait until get the final [thumbs up] from the medical department, and then we have to make decisions, like all the others as well.”

It is a real shame that Shaqiri could not feature against Wolves. The forward has not played much for the Reds this season, however, he has managed to feature in five of a possible eight games in an extremely busy December period.

The good news is his injury is not too serious, meaning he still has a vital part to play for the remainder of the season.

Liverpool are 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand. The Reds will need Shaqiri fit to help ensure the Premier League title.
