Jason Cummings states what he could have done against Liverpool

Shrewsbury Town striker Jason Cummings has claimed that he could have scored a hat-trick against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool last night.

The Reds faced Shrewsbury Town at the New Meadow in the FA Cup, where Klopp made wholesale changes to his team.

The Reds managed to gain a 2-0 lead throughout the match. Curtis Jones scored the Reds’ first goal early in the first-half, which was then followed by a Donald Love own goal early in the second-half.

However, a brace from Shrewsbury’s Cummings in the second-half saw the match finish at 2-2, which forces Klopp’s side into a replay at Anfield next week.

Despite this being a positive result for Shrewsbury, Cummings is disappointed he did not score a hat-trick.

“I could have got a hat-trick!” Cummings said, as quoted by the Mirror. “It was a dream come true against the best team in the world.”

It is a slightly arrogant comment to make. He did not come up against Liverpool’s first XI, so his two goals did not come against the best team in the world. But, he still has every right to celebrate his brace.

However, he probably should be keeping those type of comments to himself, as they could come back to haunt him.
