Brendan Rodgers gives his verdict on whether Liverpool could be awarded 2014 title

Former Reds manager Brendan Rodgers does not believe that Liverpool will be awarded the 2013-14 Premier League title if Manchester City were to be stripped of their prized trophy.

Manchester City have recently been banned from participating in the Champions League for the next two seasons due to Financial Fair Play breaches, which were investigated by UEFA.

There have been no suggestions that a Premier League investigation will take place regarding Manchester City’s breaches.

However, some are suggesting that if an investigation were to happen and the Citizens were found to be guilty, Liverpool could be awarded the 2014 title, as the breaches were between 2012 and 2016.

Liverpool finished second in the Premier League that season, but Rodgers, who was manager of Liverpool at the time, does not believe his team would be awarded the title.

As quoted by the Daily Star, Rodgers said: “It’s gone. What will be, will be, but it won’t change anything for me.

“I’m not sure what can come of it but as for the title thing, I can’t see it. Juventus lost their title (2004-05) but the team that finished second didn’t get it. It’s gone.

“It’s a situation where nothing changes in terms of my feeling of what happened that season. We were up against a fantastic City team and just fell short.”

As it has been stated, there is no suggestion that the Premier League will investigate Manchester City. But, if they did and any breaches were made, it would be interesting to see what would happen.

It would feel strange to receive a title under these sort of circumstances.
