Jens Lehmann makes claim regarding Liverpool

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann believes that there is an element of luck to Liverpool’s unbeaten 2019-20 Premier League season.

Liverpool currently possess a 22-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, which does make it likely that it will be the Reds lifting the Premier League title come May.

To gain such a lead, Jurgen Klopp’s side have taken maximum points from 25 Premier League matches out of a possible 26. Liverpool have only dropped points against Manchester United, where the game finished 1-1 at Old Trafford back in October.

Arsenal finished the 2003-04 Premier League season unbeaten, which is what Liverpool are aiming to do.

Lehmann believes that luck has played a role in Liverpool getting to this point of the season unbeaten, but he did state that Arsenal had plenty of luck in the 2003-04 campaign.

As quoted by talkSPORT, Lehmann said: “Liverpool is an amazing story. All the ingredients are there for them to become the ‘Invincible’ champions.

“They are a fantastic team, really well organised — and also sometimes a little bit lucky.

“But that isn’t a criticism. At times, we were lucky as well and I am a believer that you have to work hard to earn your good fortune.

“Now they have the chance to become Invincibles — and I think the only team that can stop that happening now is Manchester City.”

Of course, there has to be an element of luck involved to remain unbeaten after 26 Premier League matches. However, the aforementioned statistic also highlights just how good Liverpool have been.

It is crazy what Liverpool are currently doing. There is no denying that they will be looking to go the entire season unbeaten due to how far they have already come.
