Steve McManaman gives verdict on reported Liverpool target Kai Havertz
Former Red Steve McManaman rates Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz, but he is unsure whether Liverpool are genuinely interested in the German.
Havertz has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool. It has been reported that signing Havertz would cost the Reds over £100 million.
The playmaker is the type of footballer Liverpool currently lack, which means this story might have something behind it.
McManaman rates Havertz, but he is unsure whether Liverpool are genuinely interested in the player, as the club keep a lid on transfers.
“We’ll have to wait and see; he’s a young player with plenty to improve on, who might be the type of player that Liverpool are looking at rather than a fully-fledged superstar,” McManaman told HorseRacing.net.

“Liverpool do a lot of their transfer business discreetly, and a lot of the other players were bought when we didn’t know it was happening, such as the likes of Alisson Becker and Fabinho, while Virgil van Dijk was very much the exception.
“They’re very low key when it comes to signing players they want in the summer, that’s why I take transfer rumours at the moment with a pinch of salt – and if Liverpool want to do business then they’re not going to tell anyone else about it. They’ll try and get it done before anybody else knows.”
Havertz, 20, appears to be a terrific young player. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp certainly has an eye for talent, as we have seen the German manager sign a number of players that many people did not rate before arriving at Anfield.
There is a sense that Liverpool are going to have a big transfer window in the summer, as they have been linked to some big names. The club also did not sign anyone last summer, which means there is some money to be spent.
