The squad returns to Melwood, unkempt hair and all, to prepare for the Premier League’s “Project Restart.”

Are you starved for watching Liverpool players doing anything? Well, in that case, the club’s official YouTube account has you covered.

The Liverpool squad returned to Melwood, and the social media team was there to capture the small-group, socially distanced training. As can be expected under the circumstances, there was nothing too strenuous for the players to endure, but they all seemed positive and happy to be back. Many of the players, Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson among them, also spotted the camera crew and gave them a wave.

It is not unusual for Liverpool to release clips of their training sessions, although this was clearly a more momentous occasion than usual. This had much more of a “James Milner bosses everyone in the lactate test/first preseason session” vibe than just another midseason training.

The video is also good for public awareness of what these first sessions look like. It is difficult to imagine much, if any, coronavirus transmission going on from watching this video. They all keep their distances, and come and go without using the locker rooms.

Of course, as training ramps up to full-scale matches, the risk will necessarily be higher. But we have completed the first, small step toward seeing Liverpool play again. Hopefully the first of many.
