Liverpool Winger Has “Got a Point to Prove” With New Club
Sheyi Ojo is back in the Championship, this time with Cardiff City, and he wants to make an impact.
Lost a little in the wait for developments that may never come in a pair of major transfer stories, Liverpool did complete a bit of business today with the departure of 23-year-old winger Sheyi Ojo on loan to Cardiff City.
For Ojo, it’s the latest in a long line of loans—and a chance to prove last season’s strong showing with Rangers in Scotland represented a real step forward in his game and that he has a chance of a future at a top club.
“I’ve got a point to prove and I’m really excited for the new challenge,” he said following the completion of his deal. “Cardiff City is a massive club with great fans and great players—hopefully I can show what I can do here.”
Ojo made 13 total appearances in 2015-16 and 2016-17 for Liverpool around loan spells with Wigan and Wolves in the Championship. Then starting in 2017-18 he headed off to Fulham, then Reims, and finally last year Rangers.
Between all his stops, Ojo has made 124 senior appearances and scored 15 goals. Last year at Rangers, where he played 36 total games and scored five times, is by far his best return. It was a step forward. Now he needs another.
“I want to be involved in the game as much as possible,” Ojo added. “I’m delighted to get here in time for a week’s training with the team ahead of the first home game this Saturday. Now it’s important that we start right.”
