Cardiff Steal March on Rivals in Latest Wilson Transfer Twist

The domestic transfer window closes tomorrow night and if we’re being honest — and as has become customary for the Reds in recent years — it’ll be a quiet one on Merseyside, with the only real uncertainty which squad and youth players will be offloaded where, and for how long.

As recently as this morning, it seemed probable that Harry Wilson would be taking his talents back to Derby, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell back in 2018/19, this time in a permanent move worth somewhere between Burnley’s previously rejected offer of £12m and Liverpool’s ideal asking price of £20m.

Tonight, however, it appears that fellow Championship dwellers Cardiff have thrown their hat in the ring, with Pete O’Rourke reporting that the Welsh outfit have agreed a deal with Michael Edwards and the Reds transfer team for the 23-year old’s services. Neil Harris is expected to meet competition from Bristol City and Swansea before the end of the window tomorrow.

With so much interest surrounding Wilson so close to the deadline, it appears likely that Liverpool will not only be getting a permanent move for the Welshman, but perhaps also a transfer fee in the region of their initial valuation. At any rate, one expects the winger’s 15-year Liverpool career is nearing its end, in what will probably prove to be a good solution for everyone involved.
