Liverpool FC Youth Dealing with COVID-19 Outbreak

Around ten staff and players at the youth levels are reportedly in self-isolation with none said to be seriously ill.

Liverpool FC are currently dealing with a small outbreak of COVID-19 in the club’s youth ranks, with around ten coaches and players said to be in self-isolation and some training sessions having been cancelled this week as a result.

That’s the news according to The Liverpool Echo, who reported on the outbreak shortly following the club’s announcement earlier today that their new first team training base at Kirkby—adjacent the academy—had officially opened.

While the club’s academy and new AXA Training Centre are now adjacent to allow better integration of the first team and youth levels, internal facilities are not shared and the only cases of staff in self-isolation are connected to The Academy.

“A number of academy staff have tested positive for COVID-19 and are isolating,” a club representative said. “This has led to the cancellation of a small number of training sessions. Strict protocols have been in place [and] will continue.”

Further according to The Echo, for the time being at least it is only some of the younger age groups that have been impacted by active cases, and none of the coaches or players who have tested positive are said to be seriously unwell.
