Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Offer Gini Wijnaldum New Three-Year Deal

Reports in Italy claim the Reds have made a new offer while Inter Milan and Barcelona are the player’s alternatives.

The general consensus is that Gini Wijnaldum’s future lies away from Anfield, with the 30-year-old’s contract expiring at the end of the season and little sign that the club or player were interested in re-opening contract negotiations at this stage.

However, the latest transfer chatter out of Italy runs counter to that general consensus, claiming instead that Liverpool have tabled a new three-year deal with a £30k weekly raise that would take Wijnaldum’s pay packet to around £105k per week.

If the veteran Dutch international isn’t interested in extending his stay on Merseyside, he would be free to sign a deal with a continental club as soon as January when the transfer window opens, though he wouldn’t join any new club until the summer.

Following earlier talk of Italian interest, the player’s alternatives are said to be Barcelona and Inter Milan—with Barca favourites for his signature due to the presence of former national team manager Ronald Koeman’s at the Camp Nou. At least for the time being.

Earlier this month, Koeman admitted publicly that Wijnaldum “may be an option for the future” for him at Barcelona but that with the player currently under contract at Liverpool he “can’t say more.” At least for the time being.
