A lot has happened in 2020 for Liverpool and the club’s fans.

Liverpool entered 2020 first in the Premier League, and they will spend Christmas first in the Premier League. In between, the club broke a three-decade league title drought. In that sense, it’s been a very good year.

They also did that during a global pandemic. In that sense, it’s been a very bad year. Or, as Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson put it as he reflected on another year nearly through, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster.

“It has been quite a year,” Henderson said. “It’s been a rollercoaster. For us, I think the high of winning the Premier League, something that you’ve dreamt of your whole career, to do that is an amazing achievement.

“But also there’s more important things in life and a lot of people have suffered in 2020. So that has been different and it has been a difficult year and I just hope 2021 brings more happy memories for more people.”

On the pitch for Henderson, whatever else 2021 brings it will see him complete his tenth season at Liverpool—and barring fitness issues, it will also see him reach the 400 games played milestone with the Reds.

In that time, he’s gone from a promising youngster struggling to measure up to his price tag—and nearly moving to Fulham in 2012 as a result—to arguably the club’s most successful captain of the Premier League era.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of it so far,” Henderson said of his time at his nearly ten full years spent at Liverpool. “The experience that I’ve had, the journey that I’ve been on over the last ten years, has been incredible.

“So I’m very grateful and very honoured to be part of this football club and I just hope I can continue to do that for many years to come—and hopefully there’s many more success stories in the near future.”
