But, I mean, can anyone really replace Van Dijk?

With Virgil van Dijk out for the season and Joe Gomez dealing with yet another long term injury, it’s no surprise that all eyes have gone to the centre-back prospects that Liverpool can pick-up in January.

Rumours have swirled around Brighton defender Ben White since van Dijk was scythed down by Jordan Pickford.

As January gets closer, the whispers have gotten louder once again. It’s believed that Brighton value the player at £50million, if they are willing to part with him. The Seagulls successfully held off multiple bids from Leeds this past summer when they tried to make his year-long a permanent move.

In the end, the 24-year-old signed a new four year contract with Brighton. That, combined with the fact that everyone knows Liverpool are the midst of an injury crisis at centre-back, means that Brighton would have plenty of leverage, should any negotiations be taking place.

Klopp has utilized Joel Matip, Fabinho, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams at various times this season. These are all clearly stopgaps, but it’s not known yet if there are plans to bring in another player to help in the second half of the season, or if they will soldier on with what they have.
