The bid was reported to be £86 million.
Liverpool have reportedly had a bid for Italy star Federico Chiesa rejected. The Daily Mail said that the Reds offered Juventus £86m for the star winger following his two man-of-the-match performances for Italy in their victorious Euro 2020 run.
If this is true, it would make Chiesa the second most expensive player in Premier League history, after only Paul Pogba’s move to Manchester United.
Chiesa is currently in the second year of a two year loan to the Italian giants with conditional obligation to buy from Fiorentina.
According to The Daily Mail, citing reports out of Italy, Juventus have rejected the offer and intend to keep the player with them. This is the latest in a series of rumours linking Liverpool to high profile wingers as they look to prepare their squad for both Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah leaving this winter to participate in the African Cup of Nations. It’s long been assumed that preparing for this eventuality, as well as the possibility of either player leaving, was the top priority for the Reds in this transfer window, after securing Ibrahima Konaté back in May.
After Chiesa’s outstanding Euros performance, it’s no surprise that the 23-year-old’s name has been linked with the Reds. He’s a hot commodity after his star turn last month, but that might make Liverpool reluctant to move forward, since his price tag will now also be at its peak. However, it’s true that Liverpool will need replacements for Mané and Salah, attackers who are hopefully at or above their level. In order to do this, if indeed they intend to, serious money will need to be spent.
What do you think? Would you like to see Chiesa brought to Liverpool this summer?
