Graeme Souness convinced Vincent Kompany should have been sent off

Pundit Graeme Souness believes Vincent Kompany should have been sent off during Manchester City’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

The Reds are currently four points clear at the top of the table despite the loss to the Citizens, leaving them in a good position going forward for the remainder of the season.

Souness though believes the result could have been a lot different had the referee sent off Kompany after a late challenge on Mohamed Salah in the first half.

“On another day it’s a red card,” Souness said, as reported by the Express.

“Salah’s got really quick feet, gets himself in the air and just avoids most of it.

“He does catch him slightly.

“But he’s off the ground and endangering an opponent.

“And that sometimes is viewed as a red card by referees.

“The referee would know that Vincent Kompany is not that type of player anyway.”
