The 29-year-old Swiss international could be the next Liverpool player to depart this summer.
Xherdan Shaqiri could be the next Liverpool player to depart the cub this summer as the 29-year-old Swiss international looks to move on from the Reds in search of more regular playing time.
To that end, there have been a number of reports in recent weeks linking the veteran attacking midfielder with a move to Italy, with Lazio and Napoli considered favourites for his signature.
The player isn’t making any secret of his desire to move on, either—and told the Italian press Liverpool are willing to sell him this summer if somebody meets their valuation.
“The important thing at this moment in my career is to be able to play regularly,” Shaqiri told Corriere dello Sport in today’s print edition. “That hasn’t always been the case in the last three seasons.
“This is why I told Liverpool that I feel ready for a new challenge. They accepted my wish and will seriously consider the offers that will come. They will not stop me.”
According to journalists with ties to the club, it will take between £12M and £15M to meet Liverpool’s valuation of Shaqiri with the club holding an option on him until 2023.
So far this summer, Marko Grujic joined FC Porto for £10.5M and Harry Wilson depart for Fulham for £12M. Taiwo Awoniyi, Kamil Grabara, and Liam Millar have also left with the club bringing in £10.8M between them, while Gini Wijnaldum left on a free.
On the other side of the ledger, Liverpool signed Ibrahima Konaté from RB Leipzig for £36M. The club are expected to look to bring in one further player in midfield and at forward this summer.
