Salah, Mane, and Milner Set Champions League Records
It was a good night in Porto for the Redmen.
Liverpool FC rebounded strongly from the weekend’s 3-3 draw away at Brentford with a strong showing in UEFA Champions League Competition against Porto. A Curtis Jones performance to remember, Salah and Mane scoring, and Bobby making his return to sneak in a brace meant that things were indeed very good in Liverpool’s part of the world.
Even better, a trio of Liverpool players made some history of their own with their contributions on the night. Mohamed Salah’s goals on Tuesday night pushed him past 30 goals in the Champions League, making him only the third African player to score 30 or more goals in the competition, after Didier Drogba (44) and Samuel Eto’o (30).
For Sadio Mane, he has now scored five goals against Porto in the UEFA Champions League, the most by a Liverpool player against a single opponent in the competition.
James Milner, putting in an emergency shift at right-back, put in an assist for Mane. The single-season assist king in Champions League history has now registered 12 assists for Liverpool in the competition. No player has provided more assists in the UEFA Champions League for Liverpool (excluding qualifiers) than him, with Milner now level with Steven Gerrard’s tally of 12 assists in the competition’s history.
