Yeah, Liverpool were never going to entertain a swap deal for one of their up and coming stars.

I’ve now been writing about transfer rumors for this site for nearly a decade. I’ve also reported on loads of potential swap deals; as of yet, none have come to fruition.

Sure sure, a swap deal is great for the doldrums of the end of June, especially with major international tournaments underway. And Liverpool (and their players) will always draw those vital clicks.

Anyway, The Daily Mail is reporting that Liverpool apparently rejected Newcastle’s offer of a swap deal to bring Jarell Quansah in, as they ship Anthony Gordon back to Merseyside.

Swap deals basically never happen in the EPL—gotta get those agent fees—but the idea that Liverpool would entertain letting one of their bright young talents go, especially at a time of uncertainty with a new manager coming in, is pretty laughable.

However, Newcastle selling Gordon? Yeah, that’s totally a possibility, especially if the Tyneside club wish to stay on the right side of PSR regulations. Whether the Reds would want to spend big for a former Evertonian with an eminently punchable face is another matter altogether.
