Rumour Mongering: Real Madrid Ready to Sell Rodrygo with Liverpool Interested
The transfer chatter in Spain has Madrid ready to sell if a bid over €100M arrives with Liverpool weighing up their options. We remain dubious.
While there’s been no meaningful chatter about it in the English press, as Kylian Mbappe has finally completed his move to Real Madrid that’s felt in the works for the better part of the last decade a rising theme in the Spanish press has been speculation over the future of Madrid’s young Brazilian winger Rodrygo.
The 23-year-old is considered the player most likely to see his minutes sacrificed to make room for Mbappe, and there have been whispers the player wants away. Until now, though, they have gone hand in hand with claims Madrid don’t intend to sell. Some have gone as far as to say a Liverpool bid was already rejected.
Now, though, the rumour mongers in Spain are suggesting Rodrygo’s lack of commitment to the project in the face of Mbappe’s arrival has Madrid and president Florentino Perez reconsidering their stance and increasingly open to the idea of selling him should a bid in excess of €100M come through the burofax.
Conveniently, that supposed past Liverpool bid for Rodrygo the rumour mongers in Spain claimed Madrid rejected was €120M. Which if any of this was at all true would presumably make getting a deal done relatively easy now. Of course, it’s likeliest none of this is true in the slightest and no deal’s happening.
Realistically between the fee and Madrid’s standing as the destination club for top Brazilian players, it’s hard to see either the Reds being eager to stump up the cash or for Rodrygo himself to be especially quick to cut his losses without at least trying to carve out a niche for himself in a side that includes Mabppe.
Depending on how the 2024-25 season plays out for him, it’s not impossible to imagine a world where Rodrygo does move on in summer 2025. No matter how much chatter there ends up being in the Spanish press about it, though, it’s almost impossible to imagine it being a move that happens this summer.
