Rumour Mongering: Real Madrid Want Trent Alexander-Arnold & Alphonso Davies
Having reloaded in midfield and attack, Real Madrid’s 2025 summer plans centre on a pair of fullbacks according to the Spanish press.
Heading into the second week of an international break, the team news tends to dry up and football media inevitably turns towards transfer rumours to fill up the space. For Liverpool fans, this often means links to potential signings.
This time around, though, it appears the big transfer story of the week could be a potential outgoing, with outlets in Spain looking ahead to summer 2025 for Real Madrid and seeing a pair of fullback signings including that of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
According to Sport and others in the Iberian Peninsula, the fact that right back Alexander-Arnold as well as Bayern Munich star left back Alphonso Davies are set to be out of contract next summer has Los Blancos licking their lips.
The duo, at 25 and 23 years of age respectively, are widely regarded as two of the best and most creative players at their position, both on the cusp of their prime years and avaiable—at least in theory—to be added to a stacked young squad.
It’s hardly a new story and concern for Liverpool fans, who have been growing increasingly concerned about what the future might hold for Alexander-Arnold, a player who ideally should have been renewed a summer or two back.
Biding their time on renewals for past-30 stars like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk could be argued to be a prudent approach. Allowing a 25-year-old world class creator—a Scouser no less—to potentially run down his deal and leave on a free is anything but.
Of the duo said to be targeted by Madrid, Alexander-Arnold does seem likelier than Davies to renew before the turn of the calendar year allows him to enter negotiations with Madrid for a potential free transfer, but it’s hardly ideal.
