The Scouser on the team reached a major mark on Saturday.

Liverpool’s match on Saturday was an offensively strong performance, with Luis Díaz bagging a brace and Darwin Nuñez scoring a gorgeous curler, it’s easy to overlook a relatively straight forward giving those two bits. The Colombian winger is on scintillating form, after all, and given the noted difficulties of the Uruguayan to regularly find the back of the net, their successes only help to feed the narrative machine.

But Trent Alexander Arnold’s assist for Díaz’s second was actually significant for a couple of reasons. First, it puts him level with assists in the Premier League with his counterpart on the left, Andrew Robertson. More impressively, that assist gave the Scouser on the team 100 goal involvements across all competitions for the Reds. According to the official site, TAA hit this mark on the occasion of his 316th appearance.

Averaging approximately one goal involvement for every 3 appearances as a defender is truly eye-watering stuff. And looking at some midfielders across the league, there’s sure to be a few who wish they could have this production on their resume.

It also underscores the specific value of the right-back to the Liverpool set-up. Here’s hoping that the decision-makers for the team take this moment to remind themselves of his worth, signing him to a new contract and keeping his inimitable skills on Merseyside for years to come.
