Arne Slot Talks Rotation Ahead of Liverpool-Brighton League Cup Tie
The Reds head to the south coast to take on Brighton in the League Cup on Wednesday evening.
In their first test in the League Cup under Arne Slot, Liverpool fully rotated their side and swept aside West Ham 5-1. Their second test in England’s second cup competition comes against another Premier League opponent in Brighton on Wednesday.
Slot, though, says another full rotation might not be on the cards given his side is dealing with a few key injuries in midfield and attack, which could lead to a more staggered set of changes here and then on the weekend when the Reds face Brighton again in the league.
“I don’t think it’s possible to do the same as we did against West Ham for the simple reason that we have some injuries,” he said at his pre-match press conference. “So we don’t have maybe enough players to change them all even if I wanted that.
“Today when they come in we will find out how they are doing then we make decisions on who to start, but if you look at our schedule and the times we have less days to recover it might be a moment to see some other players—but first we have to know how fit everyone is.”
One change in particular that might be on the cards is in goal, where Caoimhin Kelleher would normally be expected to get the nod as Alisson Becker’s backup. With the Reds’ number two currently filling in for the injured Alisson, though, that could change.
“It’s something that also goes through my head,” Slot added when asked about the chance of third choice Vitezslav Jaros starting. “I have to make that decision. I also want to see how fit Caoimhin is—he’s played many games. Let’s wait and see what decision I make.”
