Slot says he has enjoyed and appreciated watching Brighton’s approach to football under multiple managers in recent seasons.

Through three successive managers, starting with Graham Potter before Roberto De Zerbi took charge for two seasons and now under the guidance of Fabian Hurzeler, Brighton have maintained their identity as a data-driven side that focuses on possession and a pleasingly attacking style of play.

For a side promoted to the English top flight for the first time in their 100+ year history in 2017, that approach has seen them become a mid-table mainstay with European aspirations in the Premier League ecosystem, and it’s an approach Liverpool boss Arne Slot says that he has a lot of respect for.

“They have had very good ideas about football for many years already,” Slot said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup Round of 16 tie between the two Premier League clubs. “I like their playing style a lot with their former manager and already and this one as well.

“I think what makes a club like Brighton in my opinion special is that they don’t maybe have the most money in the league but when they buy the players they always find the right ones. So there is a lot of quality, they always find the right ones and have many quality players and a very good style.”

Slot and his players will have plenty of opportunity to get better acquainted with Brighton’s style this week, with the mid-week cup tie away at The Amex stadium followed by a trip to Anfield for Brighton—off to a good start sitting sixth with 16 points after nine games—in the Premier League on Saturday.
