Liverpool dispatched Bologna 2-0 on Wednesday night with Salah scoring the settler.

With Liverpool’s victory over Bologna on Wednesday night in the Champions League, the Reds ensured they would end the European matchweek as one of the top eight sides as well as being one of seven clubs with maximum points from their first two games.

With six games still to play there’s a lot of football left before the knockout rounds arrive, but earning a bye to the Round of 16 and avoiding an extra two games is key for the Reds and Wednesday’s win keeps them on track to achieve that over the coming months.

“It’s a very important win,” star forward Mohamed Salah said after the 2-0 victory, with Salah scoring the second of the night to settle any nerves and ensure the Reds would end up with six points from their opening two European fixtures under manager Arne Slot.

“It’s a tough team. Tactically they are unbelievable. I’m glad we managed to win the game. The manager spoke at half-time, and as players we also spoke. We said to stick together and try to play our football, and I think that’s what we did in the second half.”

The Reds return to Premier League action on Saturday when they head to London to take on Crystal Palace before the October international break arrives. Afterwards, their Champions League opponents will include RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, and Real Madrid.
